Do I attach this to the harness or the collar?

Always the harness, and specifically the D-ring on the back. Collars put direct pressure on your cat's neck, which can be really uncomfortable and even cause injury if they pull or dart suddenly. The harness spreads that pressure across the chest and shoulders instead, which is much safer and more comfortable for your cat. If you're using the RoamReady™, the D-ring sits right at the centre of the back and the clip snaps in easily.

Can I set it to a shorter length?

Yes, and this is one of our favourite features. Just press and hold the button to pause the cord at whatever length feels right for where you are. Press again to release when you want to give them more room to roam. It's really useful when you're passing other people or crossing a road and want to keep your cat close, then give them freedom again once you're in a quieter spot. You can do it all with one hand while the other holds the handle.

Is the retraction gentle enough for smaller cats?

It's designed to be smooth and gradual, so there's no sudden jerk when the cord reaches its limit. Smaller and more nervous cats tend to be fine with it once they're used to the sensation. We'd always recommend introducing the leash indoors first so your cat can get comfortable with the feeling of the cord before heading outside. How do I clean it?

It's pretty low maintenance honestly. A wipe down of the handle with a damp cloth keeps it fresh, and if the cord picks up any mud or dirt on a walk, just extend it fully and wipe along the length before letting it air dry. Let it dry completely before retracting so moisture doesn't build up inside the casing. That's really all it needs to stay in good condition.
